Sqrabbit’s Pearls of Wisdom

Sqrabbit had led a lonely life, devoid of friends. He felt very unloved and his self-esteem was very low. Then one night he asked for a way to make friends so he wouldn’t be so alone. In his dreams he began to hear pearls of wisdom, messages that would improve his life and give him the self-esteem that he wished for. He went out into the day and shared these pearls of wisdom with anyone who would listen. Pretty soon he had lots of people wanting to be his friend so that they too could listen to his wisdom.

Soon Sqrabbit was no longer alone. He found himself with a whole passel of friends. These friends promised to give him trinkets and food in exchange for his pearls of wisdom. Indeed the friends liked him so much and the wisdom he brought to their lives that they would do anything for him.

One day after they had taken all that he offered and asked for more, Sqrabbit said, “I am tired and soon I will fall over asleep if I am not allowed to rest and take care of myself. I appreciate your friendship, but I must now take leave of this place and go to my bed.”

Sqrabbit’s friends could not argue with him, for he was already out of the door of the den. They ran after him asking that when he awakens he come to them and impart more of his wisdom for them. They told him that they would set a bountiful table of goodies for him so that once they had received his wisdom he could eat to restore his well being.

What was this uneasy feeling Sqrabbit felt as he laid down to rest. Why was he feeling grumbly and unsettled? Why would he feel this way after giving so much to his friends? Did not that prove his devotion to them, and thusly his need for sustenance would be filled? That is the way it is in this world, after all. And I have learned so much about life in my dreamtime that I am able to impart all this wisdom to them.

As his eyes closed against the thoughts that bore down upon him, he drifted into a sleep that took him out of the place of awakening and into the realms of his dreams. He loved this place of dreams for there he always received such pearls of wisdom and thoughts of grandeur. He found this place of dreams to always be so fruitful that he asked to go there often.

This time, though he found the dreamplace to be different and full of questions. He wondered if he had taken a wrong turn and stumbled into a garden of doubt and misery. It didn’t even feel good, this place of mystery.

Sqrabbit sat for a while under a tree that stood naked and forlorn. He wondered why he could find no beauty here, nothing to give a feeling of love and happiness. He looked around for a sign that would lead the way out of this place, but alas there was none.

Suddenly he heard a voice. It was calm and loving and full of Grace. He listened for the wisdom it would impart, but alas it came not again. He listened more and heard only the steady beating of his heart. It grew and grew till suddenly it stopped and he thought surely he would die on the spot.

Instead a tiny voice rang out true and clear. It said, “Sqrabbit, I Am your voice, that voice that imparts so much wisdom to those who come and take it from you. You are giving away the knowledge that you take from here, and you believe that there is no other than you with this wisdom.

As you give away these pearls of wisdom in exchange for the sustenance they give, you do so without thinking of what they mean. You do not live them, for they are all based in what you do for yourself that supports the now and here. If you listen to the words as you utter them, you will find much more can come from the words than merely being the reporter of that which is meant for you.”

Sqrabbit sat upright and found that he could now move from the spot where he lay. He found himself wanting to hear more of what the voice was telling him, for it rang a note of truth for him. “I thought that I was listening to the pearls of wisdom that I received in my dreams. Now you tell me that is not the case. What am I to do, then?”

The voice continued, “You are to listen to the words as you receive them, and then apply the teachings to your life. As you do that you will be an example to your friends and anyone else you come in contact with. You are to go out from this place and find the truth of the words that I impart to you and tell your friends that you are going to go a different course right now. Tell them that you are going to go out in the world and bring into your life that which you require for your sustenance, and that you are going to live the pearls of wisdom that you receive.

In that way others can find their own truth in what they see in how you live the pearls. In that way they can live according to their own interpretation of what feels good to them from what they observe not only from you, but from all of mankind, and especially from looking deep within their own truth and living that.”

Sqrabbit found tears of joy escaping from his eyes. He felt his heart swell and his feet began to quiver. Before he took his next breath he found himself leaping into the air in a joyful dance that he had no control over. The voice cried out in song when the question formed in his mind, why am I in such joy?

His own thought answered his question as soon as it was formed. You are feeling the rush of release of all the old patterns that kept you in bondage to others. You are now free to come and go as you please and to live your life according to the freedom that joy gives you. This is what being The Creator, the Oneness, means. This is the love in motion being the totality of who you are.”

Sqrabbit soared and sang and danced around the whole town. He had immeasurable energy and infinite love for himself and everyone and everything that existed. He found that in this new way of living in the gift of freedom he could do and be anything that he intended to be.

He found a bench in the middle of the square and came to rest beside a little dog. The dog looked at him and smiled. With the smile also came a wagging tail. That told Sqrabbit that he was welcome to sit beside this dog and to impart a bit of love his way. This time he saved the pearls of wisdom for himself, and he told the dog how much he loved his coat and the light in his eyes. He reached into the pocket under his own coat and pulled out a bit of cheese that he had put there earlier in the day. “You look like you would enjoy this treat, and I would love to please your pallet if you care.”

The dog reached out with his paw and accepted the bite of cheese with a grin and a wet smooch for the gift. He then stood and gestured to Sqrabbit to come with him for he had something he wished to show him. They danced over to a cave under the low-hanging branches of a tree, and lo and behold there were all of Sqrabbit’s friends waiting for him with a table loaded with goodies. They gathered around him and asked for his pearls of wisdom. Then a great hush came over the cave.

Sqrabbit cleared his throat and took a deep breath, remembering the words of his own voice.” I have much to tell you in my own new way, but you will have to allow me to eat with you while I share what it is that I have for you.”

They all gathered round the table, puzzled at this new way Sqrabbit had of opening up another session of wisdom telling.

Sqrabbit filled his plate and encouraged the others to do the same, including the dog. Then Sqrabbit told them what his own voice had told him, the one important pearl of wisdom that superseded all others. “We are to live our wisdom, rather than sit and be the one that has all of the wisdom. I no longer see myself as the bearer of the pearls of wisdom and you as the ones who are in need of them.”

His friends looked at each other and began to protest.

“Please, please listen to me, I request one more moment, and then I will accept whatever you do or say,” Sqrabbit said. “ I was told that I must live the pearls of wisdom that I am given and be amoung all of you living those pearls. I have my own interpretations of them, just as you do. And furthermore, if you listen to your own voices so too do you. You all have your own voices that impart the bits of wisdom to you. Those pearls of wisdom are designed to lead you in the directions in life that are in answer to what you, in the energy and agreement of Spirit, intend for your lives. That is the gift that we all give ourselves, the gift of our innermost being that is pure Spirit.”

That day was the beginning of a whole new life for Sqrabbit and for all of his friends. They lived together in complete and total harmony from that day forward, and as their lives grew and took on different colors and vibrations so too did their lives reach out to each other in joy and harmony. Never again did one rely on another to advise them and lead them in a direction that they did not already support. They live now in harmony and love, and they spread that love and unity everywhere they go on this great planet earth of the Now and Here.
